Looking back on this year it is evident there has been a real progression in the interests of the topics we have done. We started off being dictated to, doing Keeping Ourselves Safe and then running a Harold health unit. I'm sure these could have been better adapted to my students if I had known them better but it hasn't been until lately, Term 3 and 4 that my topics have really taken off.
We studied
Earthworms (as experts using MOTE)
Milk (Dairy industry etc)
The Earthworm unit came out of their fascination with hunting and possums-I realised after the School Gala bunny and possum shoot. It then turned out that they had some prior knowledge from Year 2 and so we could go a lot deeper then anticipated.
Milk: This stemmed from the introduction of Milk in Schools and the reading of the facts on the backs of the packets. Taking on board the country style living of our students it was helpful to look into the dairy industry and attempt a tech unit.
Both topics evolved well, retrospective planning may have to be the new initiative I try as I would not have known where I was going to be taken at the start of it all!
